As a beginner, I just don’t see much of the point. Abstracting away the differences between different version control systems means adding a whole new abstraction layer that doesn’t precisely fit anything (and this is coming from someone who uses Git GUIs). Is it good for scripting if it doesn’t have access to the system’s specific plumbing commands?

I am happy to hear Magit getting embedded into the default Emacs installs (like Org). I love using Magit.
