What the X11libre?!

Sure you all are more aware than I, but saw a relatively new repo show up in GitHub, namely, x11libre/xserver (GitHub - X11Libre/xserver: XLibre Xserver).

The README piqued my interest and brought to light my ignorance of what is happening, or at least one side of the story. So it seems X11 is making a comeback?

Sort of abandoned my StumpWM desktop project, an act of succumbing and preparing for the inevitable Wayland, but there seems to yet be a new breath of life coming back into X11?!!

AFAIK, X11 isn’t making a comeback per se but the developers that forked it don’t think it’s dead yet and want to see what can still be done with the protocol and release new versions with new features and not just bug fixes.

As the current Xorg project is heavily invested in Wayland, human and corporate nature took over, and resistance against developers and users that think X11 isn’t dead and thus also the fork is quite emotional, political and some fight dirty.
