I realized that there are now some memes/tropes that are a bit unknown to new folks. So let’s try to collect them. I guess having this as a wiki would be easier to collect, but the [Wiki](https://wiki.systemcrafters.net/) has no instructions on how to add new content at the moment, which makes it probably even harder for new viewers to enhance. Also, the wiki isn’t linked from the main systemcrafters site. | ℹ Order of Entries | | --- | | The order is chronologically of first appearance. | | 🕐 Timestamps | | --- | | All times are UTC. | # Sherri `Sherri M.6.S.191?DRML​​` was a YouTube viewer that jumped into Friday streams on multiple occasions. The first confirmed stream was [https://youtu.be/nXu32MHBDqA?t=2302](https://youtu.be/nXu32MHBDqA?t=2302). Sherri usually went completely off-topic, only occasionally hitting the stream’s content. The consensus on Discord/YouTube chat was that Sherri is a bot, used by someone who tried the MIT’s Machine Learning course (which uses the same number). Sherri was only seen for a few weeks and then went completely silent. # Stream Delayed by Guix Pull > ```auto > live? However, there was an infamous much longer delay [citation needed] when a last minute `guix pull` too its sweet time and threw the schedule “a bit” off. Since then, it has been a common meme to either a) blame `guix pull` for the stream being late or b) suggest to David to use `guix pull` during the stream (which would more or less abort it). The latter was actually a major issue when David had only one streaming machine. [17:31] > > ``` “thank you leftpad” originated from two discussions being intersected at probably the best (or worst) possible time. On the one hand, we have ashraz telling @daviwil that there has been a new Twitch subscriber. On the other hand, ashraz laments the woes of dependency management in Rust and other “lets create a package for minimal functionality” ecosystems with @purplg and @trev and points to the infamous [npm left-pad incident - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Npm_left-pad_incident). However, in doing so, ashraz accidentally indicated that the new subscriber was called “leftpad”, and therefore David thanked the npm package live on stream, which _immediately_ got caught by both @alternateved and @purplg. leftpad’s subscriber status got questioned during the stream, and more or less all issues of this and the following few streams have been blamed on leftpad. Nowadays, if you see “Thank you leftpad”, it’s usually because something went unexpectedly wrong; or because the IRC user “leftpad” has trolled a bit. # Leftpad First time on stream on Feb 9, 2024: > ```html > thank leftpad > alternateved: You're welcome! > > ``` > > ```html > !leftpad [18:29] > Thank you leftpad > The !leftpad command has not been enabled in this channel. It was created during the “thank you leftpad” incident. Originally only meant for an automatic “You’re welcome!” message whenever someone posts a sarcastic “thank you leftpad” (if something goes wrong), it’s nowadays the antithesis of ashraz’ advises. Where you might consider ashraz’ advise and ashraz tries to be helpful, leftpad will occasionally drop destructive advises. Do not follow leftpad’s advise! Some of ashraz more sarcastic/tongue-in-cheek comments are now posted under the leftpad alias. # David goes fishing On `#systemcrafters`, original date a bit unknown, early Sep 2024. IRC accounts ashraz uses during stream. It’s a name stands for “System Crafters Stream Copy”. It should have been “System Crafters _Chat_ Copy” (and ashraz occasionally uses the wrong nick), but the typo has stuck. Previously, the `sc-live-bot` would copy messages from Twitch into IRC. But the Twitch bridge broke and the bot has not worked for a while [citation needed]. Given that some of the messages on YT and Twitch were missed by David at that time, ashraz created a quick workaround by manually copying messages under the `sc-s-copy` nick. This has been going well for a while, but the more recent Friday streams have more than 100 viewers, which puts a bit on a toll on `sc-s-copy`. With this, `sc-s-copy` also started to include some fun facts, for example reaching a certain milestone during the stream (like surpassing 100 viewers). | 🛑 Copy Bias | | --- | | `sc-s-copy` is biased and will not copy all messages. Blatant memes or tolling messages are not copied, for example. Discussions that are completely internal to either Twitch/YouTube are not copied. With that, ashraz’ auto-completion completed `ac` to SummerEm_ **ac** _s, which @alternateved immediately jumped on. @wolfjb and Naokotani also joined in. With that, it has become more or less custom to say `Bye SummerEmacs` whenever a user leaves the `#systemcrafters-live` chat, but we recently learned that @summeremacs actually reads all those notifications, so _maybe_ we should tone it down. # `visible-bell` inducing seizures First confirmed mention on Nov 15, 2024. > ```html > (setq visible-bell epileptic-seizure-mode) [17:31] > > ``` > > ```html > Most people who watch this now have a seizure due to visible-bell! > > ``` This is most often called out on-stream by @trev, which is why David usually refers to @trev on any blinking lights. ---

You might have mentioned it during the ERC/IRC stream. @summeremacs mentioned some erc-log-saving keybinding in the last few days, and when I went on a search for those logs, it turned that I have quite some logs saved by accident 😃 ---
